Yiwu traders thrive amid Euro 2024 fan frenzy

UEFA Euro 2024 continues to ignite passions among football fans around the world, and not only that, it is also significantly boosting trade in Yiwu, the capital of the world’s largest wholesale market for bazaar products, located in Zhejiang province, 300km southwest of Shanghai.

T-shirts and Socks on the Rise

Chou, one of Yiwu’s leading traders, shares his enthusiasm:

I have shipped more than 300,000 T-shirts, and orders have increased by 30% compared to last year. Every time a team wins a match and advances in the European Championship, Chou receives a flood of new orders.

On the other hand, Zheng, another leading Yiwu trader, says:

This month, sales of football socks have doubled from their usual level, and the growth is mainly coming from the European market“..

Euro 2024 Accessories and Merchandising

Not only shirts and socks are in high demand. Sound and light-emitting toys, horns, LED foam sticks and hand bells are selling out in a flash among match attendees. These products have become must-haves for fans looking to cheer on their teams in style.

Facilidades Aduaneras para una Rápida Exportación

To speed up the clearance of goods destined for Euro 2024, Yiwu Port Customs has set up a dedicated window. Thanks to the “one-click approval” system, more than 99% of export shipments are cleared in a matter of seconds.

According to Yiwu Customs data, from January to May, exports of sports equipment and supplies reached 4.1 billion yuan (525 million euros), representing a year-on-year increase of 44.4%.

The Crucial Role of Cross-Border E-Commerce

The burgeoning cross-border e-commerce industry has been key to Chinese football products reaching overseas markets. Platforms such as AliExpress and Cainiao have opened special delivery lines to Europe, guaranteeing shipping times as short as five days.

In May, sales of football-related products on AliExpress increased by 80% compared to the previous year, with Spain and France as the main markets. In addition, volumes of parcels destined for Europe tripled compared to the same period last year.

Euro 2024 is not only filling stadiums and hearts with joy, but also boosting trade and economic growth in Yiwu. The combination of football passion and business efficiency is proving to be a winning formula for fans and entrepreneurs alike.
