This report reveals that since 2023 the number of partner countries in the initiative has grown to 33, highlighting the key role that digitalisation of trade is playing in driving global growth. In the past year, China has signed bilateral e-commerce cooperation with the Philippines, Indonesia, Serbia, Bahrain and Tajikistan, strengthening e-commerce ties. As a result, cross-border e-commerce between China and these 33 countries accounted for 30% of the country’s total e-commerce imports and exports, with significant growth in 23 of these markets.
Today, ‘Silk Road’ e-commerce has established itself as a key element in the construction of the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ with a focus on high quality. Through the development of cooperation mechanisms, collaboration among participating countries has been promoted, strengthening communication, mutual trust and the sustained growth of digital trade.
China has leveraged its vast market capacity, combining its industrial and geographical advantages with the business needs of its partners to foster closer cooperation in e-commerce. Examples of this collaboration include Alibaba International Station, which supports the digitisation of global trade, and Cainiao, which facilitates the expansion of Chinese brands in international markets.
The report also highlights that e-commerce, as a fundamental component of the digital economy, is experiencing accelerated growth and has become a key driver of global economic development.
In the future, e-commerce will continue to play a central role in global economic cooperation, contributing to bridging the digital divide between countries, improving social welfare and building a global digital community. This evolution will point the way towards a new model of digital economic cooperation based on shared development and prosperity.
